Vitamin D: why deficiency is so common

Even in sunny countries. What blocks synthesis, and what supplementation actually changes.

Sunlight is not always enough

Skin synthesis depends on sun angle, exposed skin area, pigmentation and age. Deeper skin needs several times more exposure than fair skin to produce the same amount.

Add covering clothing, indoor work and daily sun protection — necessary in its own right — and actual production becomes low even under a clear sky.

What K2 adds

D3 increases calcium absorption; K2 activates the proteins that direct it to bone. Taking one without the other leaves the job half done.

The MK-7 form is long-acting, allowing a single daily dose — and a daily dose you actually keep beats a high one you forget.

With a meal, always

D3 and K2 are fat-soluble: on an empty stomach part of the dose is not absorbed. Taken with a meal containing some fat, they are absorbed far better.

And a reminder that holds for all supplements: they accompany a diet, they replace neither a blood test nor medical advice.
