protection solaire hiver
Do you really need sunscreen in winter?

The answer depends on what you want to avoid. What UVA does all year, including behind glass.
UVB and UVA do not follow the same season
UVB, responsible for sunburn, drops sharply in winter. UVA stays high all year and passes through cloud and glass.
And it is UVA that sustains pigmentation and ageing. If your goal is an even complexion, the season is not the question.

Quantity is the real subject
An SPF50 applied too thinly does not protect like an SPF50: the rating is measured at a specific quantity. Count roughly two finger-lengths for face and neck.
It is the most frequent error, and it explains most of the disappointment blamed on the product.
After a procedure or exfoliation
Skin that has just been exfoliated or treated is temporarily more UV-sensitive. That is when protection matters most, and paradoxically when it is most often forgotten.
A repairing balm with built-in SPF solves both needs in one step, which raises the odds it actually gets used.
