Enlarged pores: what you can and cannot do

A pore does not close like a door. But its appearance can change noticeably.

Why they look wider

Pore size is largely genetic. What varies is the contents: oxidised sebum and dead cells make a pore visible and dark.

With age, loss of firmness also widens the visible opening — which is why the same pores look more marked at forty than at twenty.

What genuinely improves

Regular exfoliation empties the pore and noticeably reduces its visibility. Niacinamide, over several weeks, regulates sebum and refines the overall look.

These two effects add up, but they require consistency: the result reverses as soon as you stop.

What makes it worse

Squeezing widens the opening and often leaves a lasting mark. Peel-off strips remove the plug but irritate the wall, which then refills faster.

And stripped skin produces more sebum: harsh cleansing is the direct enemy of the goal.
