Hair perfume: what it is actually for

It is not a classic fragrance and it does not replace washing. What it does well, and its limits.
Why not a classic perfume
A skin perfume is heavily alcohol-based: on hair, alcohol dries the fibre and dulls the lengths with repeated use.
A hair perfume is formulated to bind to keratin without drying, and it releases with movement rather than continuously.

When it is useful
Between washes, after cooking, or as a finishing touch after styling. It masks an odour, it does not clean — an oily scalp needs washing, not fragrance.
Spray from twenty centimetres, on the lengths not the roots: that is where the scent holds without weighing hair down.
An impulse product on the shelf
Small format, accessible price, immediate sensory benefit: that is the classic profile of a checkout impulse buy.
Placed beside hair care rather than perfumes, it completes a basket instead of competing with it.
