Baked-on grease: why scrubbing achieves nothing

Dwell time does more than elbow grease. The protocol that beats an extractor hood.

Chemistry needs time

A degreaser must stay in contact for several minutes to dissolve polymerised grease. Spraying then wiping immediately uses only the mechanical part of the product.

Five minutes of dwell time replaces ten minutes of scrubbing — and damages surfaces far less.

Warm beats strong

A warm surface makes dissolving easier. Cleaning a hob that has just cooled takes half the product of one cold since yesterday.

One caution: never on a still-hot surface, where the product evaporates before it acts.

Finish with the all-purpose

A degreaser leaves a film. A pass with an all-purpose cleaner removes that residue and stops dust sticking to it immediately.

It is the step everyone skips, and the one that makes the result last another week.
